As a hunter, you need to make sure you’re ready for anything. You can’t do this if you’re freezing cold the whole time you’re out in the field. Unfortunately, frigid temperatures can’t be changed during a wintertime hunting season. What can be changed, however, is the gear that you wear.
By choosing the right hunting footwear, you can make sure that you’re ready for anything under any circumstances. In this guide, we’ll take a look at some of the best boots out there to keep your feet nice and toasty no matter how harsh the conditions.
1. The Original Muck Boots Unisex Woody Max Boot
The Original Muck Boots Unisex Woody Max Boot is available in a variety of both men’s and women’s sizes. This includes a range of 8 to 14 in women’s and 7 to 13 in men’s. They have a classic design that’s black near the bottom of the boot and camouflaged from the top of the ankle to the top of the boot.
There are a few reasons that these boots are so warm. For one, they’re made out of warm materials. While they have a textile and rubber body, these boots also include a fleece lining and a 2 mm thermal foam underlay in the instep to increase insulation. It also helps that the boot is waterproof, so you don’t have to worry about melting snow seeping in.
These boots are also warm thanks to the way that they fit on your foot. Thanks to the stretching topline on the boot, it hugs your calf when you wear it. This traps much more warmth than a boot that doesn’t lock around your leg.
2. Irish Setter Men’s 2870 Vaprtrek Waterproof 8” Hunting Boot
This Irish Setter Hunting Boot comes in men’s sizes 9 through 12. They have a different design approach than the boots we just looked at.
At the absolute basics, instead of pull-on boots, these are lace-up boots similar to the design of a pair of hiking boots. They feature a rubber sole and are otherwise made with 100% synthetic materials. They’ve been designed and blended to create a fit that’s just as comfortable as they are warm. The boots come up to your ankle with a distance of about 7” from the arch of your foot and are designed with Realtree Xtra Camouflage.
Another handy feature of these boots is their ScentBan scent control technology. When you’ve been in the field all day in wet conditions, you’ll be grateful that your boots have a barrier to help avoid an unpleasant stench.
3. Bogs Men’s Classic High Rain and Winter Snow Boot
The Bogs Men’s Classic High Rain and Winter Snow Boot is a classic choice that you simply pull on and it comes partway up your calf. Specifically, the top of the boot measures a full 12” from the arch of your foot. You can order these boots in the impressive set of men’s sizes ranging from 4 to 21. They’re also available in black, green, and Mossy Oak camo.
The boot is made up of mostly rubber. This helps to keep your feet dry because moisture isn’t going to seep in through any fabric components. In addition, the interior of the boot is lined with Bogs MAX-WICK and uses 7 mm Neo-Tech Waterproof Insulation to help pull away any moisture inside the boots away from your feet. In all, the boots are rated to stay comfortable even as low as -40 degrees Fahrenheit.
Another handy feature is the contoured EVA footbed that cradles your foot as you spend long days in the field. The footbed also uses DuraFresh bio-technology that activates as you wear the shoes to avoid unfortunate odors.
4. Danner Men’s Pronghorn 8” Gore-Tex Hunting Boot
The Danner Men’s Pronghorn 8” Gore-Tex Hunting Boot isn’t your average hunting boot. On the surface, they look like aesthetically appealing and high-quality boots. You can purchase one pair with Realtree Extra Green and Brown camo as part of the design. Aside from this, you can get all-leather brown boots or standard brown boots made with 1000 Denier nylon. No matter which design you choose, it’s going to blend in effectively in the field.
These are limited to men’s sizes but they have a wide selection. This includes men’s sizes 7 to 16, including most half sizes. Since these boots do have a lace-up style, they’re easy to adjust to fit your feet and what’s comfortable for you. This secure fit also helps to lock in warmth and fend off the elements. The warmth offered is also thanks to it’s cushioned and waterproof design. Not only are your feet going to be dry, but the boots also use an Ortholite footbed made with open-cell polyurethane. This also helps to cushion your step as you walk through the woods.
There are a lot of factors that can present you with new and unique challenges every time you go out on a hunt. Luckily, there are some solutions that you can be preemptive with to stay ahead of the curve and increase your chances of success. Wearing the right gear is at the top of the list of things you need to do to make sure not only your hunting trip goes smoothly but you stay comfortable and safe while you’re out in the field as well.
